Massive Online Open Course

Dear Colleagues,

University College London and the Royal College of Anaesthetists (UK) will soon be opening the third run of their MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) Perioperative Medicine in Action, after a highly succesful launch earlier this year.

This is a free online course that we think would be of interest to your members – we would like to ask for your help to kindly disseminate information to them. This is a unique opportunity to access high quality learning material written by the UK leaders in perioperative medicine, as well as connecting with and discussing key topics with other healthcare providers world wide.

The course begins on the 24th of September 2018, and is available in English and Spanish.

Kind Regards,

Dr Abigail Whiteman and Dr Katie Samuel

Why a MOOC on perioperative medicine
Too many patients die or suffer prolonged complications following surgery. Perioperative medicine is an emerging multidisciplinary approach optimising the care of the high-risk surgical patient.

We have brought together an internationally recognised, expert faculty to help you understand what perioperative medicine is and why we need it. By providing high quality free education in perioperative medicine we hope that these principles will be widely adopted, ultimately leading to safer surgery and improved outcomes for the high-risk surgical patient.

Who this course is for
This free online course is designed for all healthcare workers who are involved in a patients perioperative journey, including:

  • anaesthetists
  • surgeons
  • geriatricians
  • pre-assessment nurses
  • ward nurses
  • theatre staff
  • physiotherapists
  • pharmacists
  • GPs
  • medical managers

The best MOOCs are those in which thousands of learners join together for a shared learning experience. We want tens of thousands of healthcare workers across the globe to join us. The first course run in July 2017 attracted over 4000 learners from 129 different countries and we are hoping this course run will attract many more.

Accessible learning for busy people
It's free! A four week course with a flexible three hours of learning per week hosted by the UK's largest MOOC provider: FutureLearn.

The course re-opens on the 24th September 2018 and we would like to invite you to enrol now by following the link below:
